Construction on South Street garage slated to begin

PROVIDENCE – Site work is expected to begin Tuesday for construction of an eight-story parking garage to support tenants at the $220 million South Street Landing project.
In comments made Monday to the Interstate 195 Redevelopment District Commission, Scott Dumont, representing Commonwealth Ventures, the developer of the property, said garage construction would begin next week.
The garage will be located at 342 Eddy St., on a site leased from National Grid. It will have 740 spaces and will anchor the northern end of the redevelopment site for South Street Landing, a mixed-use project that involves the refurbishment of the former South Street Power Station into space for the University of Rhode Island and Rhode Island College nursing education center, as well as administrative offices for Brown University.
The South Street Landing project also includes a residential component, a 220-bed student housing development for graduate, medical and upper-level nursing students. That project will involve construction of two buildings on Point Street.
