Cornerstone surveying companies on benefits

WARWICK – Benefit-advisory firm Cornerstone Group will conduct a survey of Rhode Island, Massachusetts and Connecticut businesses with 50 or more full-time employees to determine how their benefit plans compare both locally and nationally.
The summary is now open and must be completed by Sept. 18. The Web-based study will ask employers multiple-choice questions about benefit costs and coverage, including benefits offered, deductibles, office-visit copayments, retail prescription-drug copayments, medical-plan-cost increases, monthly premiums (single/family), monthly employee contributions (percent for single and family), wellness and disease management.
The results will be analyzed by actuarial and consulting firm Milliman USA, which will use the data to determine a baseline plan for the surveyed companies so employers can see how they compare.
The results will also reveal strategies companies are using in the era of health care reform, including cost-control approaches and trends in plan design. “Employers want to know how to best approach benefits and structure their offerings,” said Rob Calise, principal of Cornerstone Group, “and they can gain valuable insight by understanding what other companies are doing in the local market.”
