COVENTRY – Literacy Volunteers of Kent County has been re-accredited by ProLiteracy, a national adult literacy organization.
The nonprofit has served Kent County for 34 years by helping adults improve their reading, mathematics, listening, writing, speaking and technology skills. It has been an accredited program of ProLiteracy since 2000.
Todd Evans, ProLiteracy’s program manager, stated that a ProLiteracy accreditation reviewer recently visited the program and affirmed the strength of the nonprofit’s services.
“Literacy Volunteers of Kent County continues to demonstrate that it provides quality instruction and services to adults in its community,” he said.
Peter Waite, ProLiteracy’s vice-president of programs, said the nonprofit has demonstrated that its programs “meet the highest national standards for volunteer literacy programs” and that services to the community are effective.
“We applaud the many volunteers, staff and students who have devoted their time and effort to achieve this goal,” he said.
ProLiteracy is a nonprofit educational organization that supports local literacy programs through a national network of approximately 130,000 volunteers and 1,000 local, state and regional literacy providers in the United States.
Its accreditation provides literacy programs with a comprehensive process for conducting an organizational self-assessment, developing program improvement plans, and demonstrating that their organization meets the highest standards for governance, program management, program operations and volunteer development.
Literacy Volunteers of Kent County is a nonprofit educational program dedicated to helping adults of all ages improve their lives and their communities by learning reading, writing, mathematics and problem-solving skills. Tutoring by volunteers is free, confidential and typically done one on one.
