Cox launches WiFi on Newport’s Thames Street

NEWPORT – Cox WiFi Internet access is now available on Upper and Lower Thames streets for Cox high speed Internet customers, marking the second location in recent weeks to feature the service.

The launch was celebrated on July 16 with Cox Senior Vice President and Region Manager Jay Allbaugh, Mayor Jeanne-Marie Napolitano, state Sen. M. Teresa Paiva Weed and state Rep. Marvin L. Abney, D-Newport, at Queen Anne Square.

Cox said that the coverage spans one mile, from the corner of Prospect Hill to Chastellux Avenue.

The first WiFi hotspot was launched by Cox in Providence’s Kennedy Plaza last month. The hotspots are a result of a $300,000 investment by Cox to build hotspots in the state.
