WEST WARWICK – Cox Communications was the New England winner of the Association of Cable Communicators’ 2012 Beacon Award.
The awards, announced Sept. 13, are presented annually by the Association of Cable Communicators to honor excellence in cable communications and public affairs work.
Cox was honored in the multicultural public relations category for its Toma El Control Series, a three-part education series on the Take-Charge initiative, which is designed to help parents manage their children’s access to mass media content.
The series, created in partnership with Latino Public Radio WELH-FM, 88.1, was produced and aired in Spanish.
“We’re honored to be recognized by our cable industry peers with a Beacon Award,” John Wolfe, senior vice president and general manager of Cox Communications New England-Cleveland, said in a statement. “Through Toma El Control we empowered parents in the Latino community to be more aware of their children's access to mass media content.”
Forty-one winners were chosen for this year’s Beacon Awards by cable communications professionals during a two-phase judging process.
“The Beacon Awards honor the best of cable’s many efforts to improve the lives of its customers,” Steve Jones, executive director of the Association of Cable Communicators, said in a statement. “These award winning projects truly reflect the cable industry’s strong commitment to the communities it serves.”
