Johnson & Wales University Dean Emeritus Karl J. Guggenmos has launched a consulting firm, Culinary Solutions International LLC, to take advantage of his more than 50 years in the culinary field.

His business venture was born out of his recognition that the industry needs a “tremendous amount of training, education and programs of good quality.”

Based in Rhode Island, Guggenmos’ business will have a global reach, as his career has taken in him to different corners of the globe, where he’s cultivated relationships with chefs, educators and other leaders within the industry.

His philosophy is based on what he calls “four anchors,” including confidence, where one masters the basics; endurance, where one masters each new challenge; renewal, where one masters the unknown; and grace, where one masters the human heart and gives back.

“The food industry is suffering from a lack of skilled labor,” he said. “With 25 years in the industry and 26 years at Johnson & Wales, that’s really where I can contribute.” •
