Cumberland Farms gives $7K to local scholars

FRAMINGHAM, Mass. – Cumberland Farms has awarded seven soon-to-be college students from Rhode Island and Bristol County, Mass., $1,000 Believe and Achieve scholarships, the company announced.
The scholarships, awarded to “promising students” who live within 30 miles of any Cumberland Farms store, go toward college expenses, according to a release. The company considers both academic performance and financial need in awarding scholarships.
Cumberland Farms is awarding $130,000 in scholarships this year to students in 11 states.
The local recipients were Maya Bergandy of Tiverton, attending Worcester Polytechnic Institute; Madeleine Fournier of East Providence, attending Syracuse University; Jennifer Kosteer of Glocester, attending the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill; Rachel Pimentel of Tiverton, attending Salve Regina University; Chelsea Cormier of Acushnet, attending Bristol Community College; Steven Tran of Taunton, attending Tufts University and Hayley Morais of Freetown, attending Salve Regina University. •
