Cyber Disruption Team supports teams in challenge

SCITUATE – The R.I. Cyber Disruption Team, led by the state police, is supporting middle and high school students who will compete in the Air Force Association’s CyberPatriot Competition .
The team, a statewide partnership of law enforcement, as well as public and private sectors, responds to cyber disruptions and provides cybersecurity-related education and outreach. The team is working to encourage interest in cybersecurity skills among local middle and high school students.
This is the seventh year that the Air Force Association is sponsoring the CyberPatriot Competition, which is part of the National Youth Cyber Education Program designed to inspire high school students toward careers in cybersecurity or other science, technology, engineering and mathematics disciplines. Competitive rounds are scored based on the teams’ ability to identify and harden network vulnerabilities.
Participating teams are as follows: All Saints Academy in Middletown (middle school division), U.S. Air Force Auxiliary’s Civil Air Patrol (cadets), the Met School, Middletown High School, Rogers High School, Tiverton High School, Warwick Area Career and Technical Center and the Wheeler School.
CyberPatriot registration ends on Oct. 10. For information on starting a team before the deadline, contact Cyber Terrorism Program Manager Meghan Martinez at (401) 444-1718.
