PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Department of Environmental Management is seeking nominations for membership on the new Local Agriculture and Seafood Act Advisory Committee.

According to a news release, the committee was established to advise and assist the department regarding the Local Agriculture and Seafood Small Grants and Technical Assistance Program, including the coordination of the program with outside resources.

Chaired by the chief of the Division of Agriculture, the committee will have between seven and 11 members. Special consideration will be given to agencies, organizations and individuals having a role or interest in the planning, development and support of “viable agriculture and seafood sectors and a locally based, sustainable food system.”

Nominations should be submitted to DEM no later than Dec. 20. •
