DLT: R.I. recovered 73.1% of jobs lost in recession

PROVIDENCE – Rhode Island, as of August, has recovered 73.1 percent of the 39,800 jobs lost during its recession, according to the state Department of Labor and Training.
In the Ocean State, the recession lasted from December 2006 to August 2009. Connecticut has recovered 88.2 percent of the 119,000 jobs it lost during its recession, and Maine has recouped 70.4 percent of the 30,700 jobs it lost.
Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont all have recovered employment lost during their respective recessions, the DLT said.
From January through August, Massachusetts led job growth with a 1.6 percent increase, followed by Connecticut, Maine and Rhode Island, all of which increased 1.2 percent. Vermont and New Hampshire were next with 1 percent and 0.1 percent increases, respectively.
Since January, the New England job count rose 1.3 percent, while the national job count increased 1.2 percent, the DLT said.
Jobs in the U.S. and the New England region increased 2.1 percent in August compared with August 2014. Massachusetts led year-over-year job growth at 2.6 percent, followed by Connecticut at 2 percent; New Hampshire, 1.7 percent; Vermont, 1.4 percent; Rhode Island, 1.2 percent; and Maine, 1.1 percent.
