PROVIDENCE – As of January, Rhode Island has recovered 80.4 percent of the 39,800 jobs it lost during its recession from December 2006 to August 2009, the state Department of Labor and Training said Tuesday.
The Ocean State is one of three New England states that still has yet to recover all the jobs it lost during the recession.
Maine has recovered 76.2 percent of the 30,700 jobs lost between its peak and low periods, and Connecticut has regained 72.8 percent of the 119,100 jobs it lost.
Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Vermont all have recouped the jobs they lost during their respective recessions, the DLT said.
In addition, the jobless rate fell in January in all New England states, with Rhode Island reporting the largest over the year decrease at 1.2 percentage points to 5.3 percent, followed by Maine at 1.1 percentage points to 3.8 percent.
New Hampshire’s rate fell nine-tenths of a percentage point to 2.9 percent, while Connecticut’s rate dropped six-tenths of a percentage point to 5.5 percent, Massachusetts’ rate fell five-tenths of a percentage point to 4.7 percent and Vermont, four-tenths of a percentage point to 3.4 percent.
