DOR: 5% hotel tax revenue climbs in April

PROVIDENCE – Five percent hotel tax revenue increased 2.9 percent year over year in April to $1.1 million, according to the state Department of Revenue.
The DOR, in its recently released 5 percent hotel tax allocation report for April, said year-over-year collections in April were “well below” the 29.4 percent year-over-year increase reported in March.
Revenue from collections are divided among four recipients:

  • Regional tourism districts, which saw revenue dip 5.4 percent to $398,433
  • Municipalities, which had a 2.1 percent increase to $260,450
  • R.I. Commerce Corp., which received $332,345 through the new funding formula (it was not funded in April 2015)
  • Providence Warwick Convention & Visitors Bureau, which had a 10.4 percent decline to $150,233

Comparing the first 10 months of the fiscal year with the same prior-year fiscal period, collections rose 12.2 percent, to $15.2 million.
