Executive director – Highlander Institute

Age: 32

Why did you select your

profession?

One day, I was working on my Ph.D. in anthropology, and the next, I was running for the hills, landing on urban education policy as a logical fit for my love of systems, social justice and creative change-making.

Where do you see yourself professionally in 10 years?

If I could bet on it, the Highlander Institute will be a national leader in providing innovative support to educators, students and families.

What’s the best career advice you’ve ever been given?

To blaze your own path, to say yes to everything and to not let them see you sweat.

How do you keep a work-life

balance?

I spend a lot of my free time practicing and playing with my band. The Extraordinary Rendition Band is a Providence street band that supports local causes, community and activist events. •
