Dance academy temporarily relocates

EAST PROVIDENCE – Dancers at a dance academy in Seekonk that was closed after a March 1 fire are practicing at Rosemary’s School of Dance Education in Rehoboth.
Three alumnae of the St. Mary Academy – Bay View, an independent Catholic school for girls open to all faiths from pre-kindergarten through Grade 12, found out on Facebook that the Centerstage Dance Academy in Seekonk closed because of a fire in the strip mall where the dance academy is located.
Bay View alumnae Bethany Medeiros Couto of Rehoboth, Samantha Medeiros of East Providence, and Alissa Brule Surkont of Warren, own Rosemary’s School of Dance and are friends with academy owner Tina Vittorioso. Couto reached out to Vittorioso and made the studio space available to her dancers, the alumnae said.
Vittorioso’s senior company dancers made a thank-you video for the Rosemary’s artistic directors and posted it to Facebook. Couto responded, “It’s the least we could do! Consider it home.”
St. Mary Academy – Bay View is sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy, an international community of Roman Catholic women dedicating their lives to God through vows of poverty, chastity, obedience and service.
Rosemary’s, which was opened by Medeiros and Couto’s mother, Rosemary Hambly Medeiros, more than 40 years ago, has locations in Warren, Tiverton and Rehoboth. Rosemary Medeiros was a Bay View alumna, class of 1975.
