EAST GREENWICH-based Dave's Marketplace is opening a store in the Rolfe Square neighborhood of Cranston, its first in the city and 10th overall in Rhode Island.

EAST GREENWICH – Dave’s Marketplace will expand into its 10th location early next year, the general manager announced Monday. The Cranston site, at 550 Pontiac Ave., previously was the location of a Seabra Foods market.
Dave’s, a locally owned and operated supermarket, specializes in fresh foods, and family-portioned meals that can be cooked and served at home. The company began in 1969 with a small fruit and vegetable stand, according to a news release, and has grown steadily.
This will be its first location in Cranston. The site is just outside the Rolfe Square area, in the Eden Park and Auburn neighborhood.
“Neighborhood markets are the cornerstones of communities,” said General Manager Bill Hogan, “And we are happy to be able to expand into the vibrant neighborhoods of Cranston.”
Over the past several months, Hogan and Dave’s owner Dave Cesario have worked with city leaders to outline a neighborhood store that will be steeped in Cranston culture, according to the release.
A spring 2017 opening is planned. The company has reached an agreement on a lease and will oversee the interior buildout. Construction should begin this month, according to a spokeswoman.
Seabra, which closed its Cranston location two years ago, specializes in Portuguese, Brazilian and Latin American foods.
