Oct. 1 also is the deadline for the State Cultural Facilities Grant program. More than $2 million in grants is available for capital improvements to arts facilities.

Applications are being accepted for projects that renovate or improve existing cultural facilities. In the first round of grant awards, projects were supported that addressed physical accessibility and accessible bathrooms, fire safety issues and the acquisition of equipment, among other things. Matching grants of up to $250,000 can be requested, with a letter of intent submitted online by Sept. 1, and a full application due by Oct. 1, according to RISCA.
In addition, starting Oct. 1, nonprofit health care organizations can apply for a new RISCA education program grant category called “arts in health care.” Arts in health care grants are matching grants for projects that connect the arts with health care in hospitals and other health care settings. Grants must include children and youth up to the age of 21 as primary participants, but may also include adults. In the arts in health care category, teaching artists need to partner with one or more licensed health care providers to develop the project.
