CRANSTON – Dean Warehouse Services, a Cumberland-based logistics company, has purchased the former Honeywell complex, the company announced this week.
The 19-acre site, at 2000 Plainfield Pike, offers nearby access to Interstate 295. The facility is 250,000 square feet, with features including 18-foot ceilings and 11 loading docks.
The purchase price was not disclosed.
Under the purchase agreement, Dean expects to gain access to the facility by July, according to company officials.
In a release, Dean Warehouse said the building will provide its customers with additional capacity for purposes such as warehousing, distribution, assembly and return processing space.
“We are all very excited about this new addition and part of our sustained growth is attributable to fostering long-term relationships with our customers,” said Dean CEO Bradford A. Dean, in a prepared statement.
Mayor Allan W. Fung said he was thrilled the company chose the site, in the Cranston Western Industrial Park. In a prepared statement, he said: “Their move into Cranston is a testament to our positive business climate, which contributes to higher bond rates, continuing job growth and an expanding commercial base.”
Dean, a family-owned company, already has eight locations in Rhode Island, including a 600,000-square-foot warehouse on Jefferson Boulevard in Warwick near T.F. Green Airport.
In July 2015, Dean acquired an empty 175,000-square-foot facility in the village of Ashaway, in Hopkinton.
Honeywell announced last year it would leave the Cranston facility and consolidate operations at its site in Smithfield.
