PROVIDENCE – Delta Dental of Rhode Island is giving more than $1 million in five separate donations to professionals to support critical oral health care across the state.
Three grants totaling $350,000 each will go to the Samuels Sinclair Dental Center at Rhode Island Hospital, Blackstone Valley Community Health Care and the Providence Community Health Centers.
An additional $15,000 is being given to the Scituate Health Alliance and $12,000 to the Thundermist Dental Tent at Operation Stand Down.
Made through the company’s charitable arm, the Delta Dental of Rhode Island Fund at the Rhode Island Foundation, the grants represent the single largest infusion of funds to support access to affordable dental services for Rhode Island’s neediest populations, the company said in a release.
“Through our ongoing conversations with our community partners, we know that access and affordability continue to be true barriers to oral health care for far too many Rhode Islanders,” said Joe Nagle, president and CEO of Delta Dental of Rhode Island. “These grants will help eliminate those barriers.”
Neil D. Steinberg, the foundation’s president and CEO, said the resources will help “bridge the gap” for Rhode Islanders who need help most.
Recipients thanked the firm and its foundation for its support.
“The impact of Delta Dental’s grant to the Samuels Sinclair Dental Center at Rhode Island Hospital will be felt by thousands of Rhode Islanders for years to come, with a particular focus on children who otherwise would not have access to the essential dental care they need,” Dr. Timothy J. Babineau, president and CEO of Lifespan, said. “There is no question that oral health goes hand-in-hand with overall health, and with these funds, we will be able to add new equipment and technologies that will help us to provide up to 4,000 more patient visits annually.”
