Delta flies high investing in wellness

Evaluating data and tracking outcomes are second nature for airlines, especially in the service of employee health.

From CEO Richard Anderson on down, Delta Air Lines Inc. management is committed to taking care of Delta’s employees – 16 of whom work in Rhode Island – because it’s the “right thing to do,” said Jae Kullar, manager, health & well-being. Senior leadership notes employees’ use of preventative health care.

Last year, Delta established the Virtual Health Plan Solution, featuring: cost-savings opportunities; customized, data-driven solutions; and a management focus on health and clinical programs. In its first year, the Virtual Health Plan focused on diabetes outreach, back health and other metrics, said Kullar.

Delta’s wellness programs are catching on, with a more than 10 percent increase in participation from 2013 to 2014, and a 22 percent increase in wellness visits between 2012 and 2014. n
