NEWPORT – A partnership between three prominent local developers has reached an agreement to purchase the Newport Grand slots parlor, the group announced Monday.

The three partners are Peter de Savary, the British-born entrepreneur who created the Carnegie Abbey Club in Portsmouth; Paul Roiff, a Cranston native with numerous developments in Boston and Joseph R. Paolino Jr., the Providence developer and former mayor who recently purchased 100 Westminster in the city’s Financial District.

In the release, the partnership said they intend to petition the R.I. General Assembly and Newport City Council to hold a statewide referendum on allowing table games at the site in addition to slot machines.

A similar effort in 2012 was approved in a statewide referendum but was rejected by Newport voters.

Arianne Lynch, a spokeswoman for the partnership, could not disclose any terms of the agreement but said the sale was pending the passage of table-game legislation.
