DiMuccio, Amica, pile up awards

LINCOLN – Amica Mutual Insurance Co. Chairman, President and CEO Robert A. DiMuccio and the company he leads are on a roll.
DiMuccio was given the Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Award last week by the NAACP Providence branch’s annual Freedom Fund Dinner. The civil rights organization, whose Providence branch has been in existence for more than a century, recognized DiMuccio for his “commitment and dedication to overcoming obstacles that face the community, particularly those affecting African-Americans and other minorities,” according to a company release.
“This award is named after an amazing human being, someone who faced many obstacles in his life,” DiMuccio said in prepared remarks. “But it is his powerful words and positive actions that we remember, that we can never forget.”
Earlier this month DiMuccio was named the 2014 Providence Business News Business Excellence Awards winner for business leadership, an honor he will accept Nov. 12 at PBN’s 14th annual BEA Awards program.
In addition to DiMuccio garnering awards, Amica was honored this month by the Rhode Island Black Business Association with its 2014 Corporate Award at the association’s annual Business Awards Gala. The awards program calls out individuals and organizations for leadership, growth and service to the community. Upon receiving the award, DiMuccio said in a statement “by enriching our workforce and our business partnerships with a wider and more diverse base of backgrounds and experiences, we’ve gained so much more than we’ve given.”
And finally, Amica received the Insurance Organization Award at the 2014 Katie School Hall of Fame Innovation & Leadership Awards dinner, held last week in Chicago. The insurer was honored by Illinois State University’s Katie School for using Geographic Information Systems during claims processing.
Amica uses GIS data to better identify where they need to allocate resources when disaster strikes and multiple claims can be expected, improving customer service and accuracy.
“This project is a great example of how business and IT can work together to deliver an innovative new application to frontline users,” said Adam Kostecki, leader of the project to deploy GIS technology at Amica, in prepared remarks. “Involving subject matter experts from the business throughout the entire process – from the initial designs to the final implementation – helped to ensure that we built an application that is not only easy to use, but one that delivers valuable insights that help our claims management team make more informed decisions.”
