William R. Pirolli, a CPA and partner at DiSanto, Priest & Co., has been appointed to the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants Relations with the Bar Association Committee, where he will be representing the CPA community at the National Conference of Lawyers and CPAs. This gathering focuses on promoting professional excellence to improve the professions’ public good. DiSanto, Priest & Co. concentrates on financial strategic planning and retreat services for businesses, with a focus on nonprofit organizations, as well as accounting and law firms. Pirolli holds a B.A. in business administration/accounting from Bryant University.

PBN: I noticed you concentrate on strategic planning for nonprofit organizations, is there a reason for this?
PIROLLI: Nonprofits face many challenges that private businesses do not. In particular, their governance is in a state of constant change as volunteers move through the organization into leadership positions. It is important to have long-term strategic plans that cross over leadership terms to keep the mission and vision of the organization consistent.
PBN: What are some of the ways your company has adapted for the rapidly changing business environment?
PIROLLI: Our strategy is to continually evaluate our services in relation to the marketplace and offer unique solutions to our clients that fit their needs. All of our clients have tax and financial statement compliance needs, and while our focus is to deliver those services with the highest of quality, we do not stop there. Through our accounting firm and our affiliated entities we call The Bentley Group, our suite of services include personal financial planning, wealth management, business valuation and cost segregation studies, estate planning and other unique value-added services. Our goal is to be our client’s most trusted business adviser.

PBN: Why do you feel it is important to educate and emphasize accounting practices to benefit the public good?
PIROLLI: The accounting profession has long been recognized as one of the most trusted professions by the public. To maintain that trust is just as important on Main Street as it is on Wall Street. Accountants play a critical role on Wall Street and the integrity of our financial markets by auditing and advising publicly traded companies. On Main Street, we work with small businesses with not only their compliance needs, but also to improve their business operations, obtain capital and help them stay in business, sometimes for generations. Small business is the backbone of the American economy, and having strong, local businesses is certainly in the public good.•
