PROVIDENCE – Last week Cranston-based The Procaccianti Group announced a plan to demolish the brutalist-style John E. Fogarty Memorial Building and erect in its place a 170-room “premium-branded upscale extended-stay hotel.”
The Fogarty building at one time housed the Providence municipal welfare office but has been empty for years.
While the Fogart building is not the most attractive building in Providence, it does represent a major mid-20th century architectural style, and there are those who think it should be preserved. Are you one of those?
Or should the building be swept away to help the city address what some see is a lodging shortage?
