Dollar General constructing store in Cranston

CRANSTON – Dollar General is constructing a new store at 1542 Broad St. in Cranston, marking its first in the Ocean State.
The store is expected to open in spring 2015.
Back in June, the Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based discount retailer had announced plans to expand its presence into Rhode Island. Dollar General sells national name brands and private brands of food, housewares, seasonal items, cleaning supplies, basic apparel and health and beauty products.

“Meeting our customers’ needs is our top priority when choosing store locations,” Dan Nieser, Dollar General’s senior vice president of real estate and store development, said in a statement. “We know convenience is a major factor in our customers’ shopping decisions as we generally serve customers within a 3- to 5-mile radius, or 10 minute drive. This new location in Cranston is a great fit for Dollar General and we look forward to being part of the community.”

The store will employ approximately six to 10 employees. Dollar General has more than 11,500 retail locations and 100,000 employees throughout the country.
