Dominion grants $10K for Boys and Girls Club

Posted:

The Dominion Foundation recently awarded $10,000 to the Boys and Girls Clubs of Fall River to support efforts that keep kids in school and prepare them for success afterward.

All funds will benefit the Clubs’ Stay in School initiative, which was established to combat Fall River’s high drop-out rate.

Teens in the program are tutored, assisted with SAT preparation and encouraged to research and complete applications for post-secondary education and financial aid. They’re also taken on college tours, where they’re introduced to campus life.

Last year, 45 of the program’s 47 seniors graduated from high school. Eighteen of those students will go on to college, trade schools or the military.

Peter McCarthy, executive director of Boys and Girls Clubs of Fall River said that since Dominion, a provider of energy for 15 states, began supporting the program in 2008, enrollment has doubled and that the club is grateful for the aid.

“The Dominion Foundation is pleased to continue supporting such a worthwhile organization that focuses on the youth in the Fall River area,” said Lisa Lundy Kusinitz, a Dominion community affairs representative.
