PROVIDENCE – Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island announced the appointment of Kathleen Cloutier as the nonprofit’s new executive director in a release Thursday.
“The energy and insight that Kathleen has displayed in leading a programmatically diverse organization in Albany that serves low-income children and their families in a high-poverty and ethnically diverse urban setting was exactly what we were looking for,” Dan Gorriaran, chairman of the Dorcas International Institute board, said in a statement Thursday.
In her former role as head of the Albany, N.Y., Community Action Partnership, Cloutier helped launch the city’s New American Opportunity Center, a one-stop resource for immigrants and refugees relocating to the community. She holds an MBA from the Krannert School of Management at Purdue University.
“She has the leadership skills, honed over 20 years in nonprofit, social-service leadership roles, to build strong teams while developing an organizational culture of accountability, empowerment and transparency,” said Gorriaran. “These skills are essential to the continued growth of Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island.”
Cloutier will officially assume her new responsibilities on Nov. 18.
Dorcas International Institute of Rhode Island is an independent nonprofit agency with a mission to empower the underserved, immigrants and refugees to become self-sufficient through advocacy programs including job readiness training, adult education, immigration and citizenship legal services and interpreting and translating services.
