PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Economic Development Corporation has approved a total of $174,791.97 of funding through the Renewable Energy Fund, which will be divided amongst four Rhode Island solar installation companies as they engage in clean energy projects across the state.
The REF has already provided $437,296 of funding to 13 groups in 2013, according to an EDC release.
“By using our assets wisely, we as a state can work to put Rhode Island at the forefront of energy sustainability and affordability,” Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee said in prepared remarks.
East Ave Solar LLC, of Cranston, Real Goods Solar of Providence, and Newport-based companies Newport Solar and Newport Renewables were awarded funds to “pursue renewable energy projects that will produce electricity by cleaner, more sustainable means,” said the EDC release.
“We continue to support exciting projects within our communities that contribute to cleaner electricity production and strengthen the state’s leadership in renewable energy,” Marcel A. Valois, executive director of the EDC, said in a statement, lauding the public/private effort to promote cleaner energy use in Rhode Island.
The funding was approved for projects within two REF programs Pre-Development Feasibility Study and Small-Scale Solar.
East Ave Solar is taking part in the Pre-Development Feasibility Study to design and engineer a solar farm in Burrillville. It will be receiving $39,750.
The rest of the organizations are receiving funds to engage in projects that will install solar photovoltaic systems on residential properties. Real Goods Solar will receive $72,431, Newport Solar will receive $33,188 and Newport Renewables will receive $29,423.
