PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Economic Development Corporation and the New England Consortium for Digital Manufacturing and Design Innovation are hosting an “Industry Day” on Tuesday, July 23 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the EDC offices in Providence.
Industries are invited to the event to support the Consortium’s proposal to create a New England institute, which helps the county’s competitiveness by improving the application of digital technologies to manufacturing and design, according to an EDC release.
The proposal to the federal government will request $70 million in funds that will be matched by a group of state and local governments, industries, universities and community colleges. The funds will be used to “develop and disseminate DMD technology and related business best practices,” said the EDC.
The “Industry Day” will give attendees the opportunity to discuss the bid, to voice problems faced while adopting digital manufacturing and design technologies and to learn about the potential these technologies offer for increased competitiveness.
The Consortium’s proposal is part of President Barack Obama’s National Network for Manufacturing Innovation initiative, and is currently seeking members from industry, academia and government to “join them in this investment in the future of American manufacturing and design,” according to a release.
