EPA taps city plant for excellence award

Posted 3/4/13

BOSTON – Taunton was recently selected by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency for a 2012 Regional Industrial Pretreatment Program Excellence Award, EPA announced in a news release.

The pretreatment program staff of Taunton was recognized by EPA’s New England Office for exceptional work in inspecting, permitting and sampling of its industrial users. The plant was among two facilities in New England acknowledged for exemplary performance during 2012 – the other being Westerly’s facility.

According to the agency, the award was established to recognize and honor employees of publicly owned wastewater-treatment plants for their “commitment to improving water quality through outstanding oversight of its industrial users discharging to the municipal sewer system.” •
