Edesia relocating to Quonset Business Park, hosting grand opening in May

NORTH KINGSTOWN – Edesia Inc. is relocating from Providence to its new factory in the Quonset Business Park in April, and hosting a ribbon cutting May 2 and a grand opening and celebratory fundraiser on May 6.
Targeted hiring is occurring in tandem with the move, said Karen Cooper, chief development officer for the nonprofit. The new facility will give the company “the capacity to develop products with a national as well as a global focus,” Cooper said.
Edesia manufactures specialized ready-to-use foods, including Plumpy’Nut and five lesser known products to feed malnourished children all over the world. The nonprofit is also transitioning its brand from Edesia Global Nutrition Solutions to Edesia Nutrition to reflect the goal of serving a national as well as global audience for its products, Cooper said. That change is reflected on its new website, www.edesianutrition.org.
The new 82,000-square-foot facility at 550 Romano Vineyard Way will more than quadruple the size of its current 20,000-square-foot building in the capital city. Production capacity will expand with a factory floor that is 20,000 square feet instead of 5,000 square feet, Cooper said.
The business has just hired a warehouse manager now that 62 percent of the new building will be for warehousing, Cooper said, and is retraining staff. Edesia also will have a quality control laboratory for which it could bring on a couple more staff members, she said.
Cooper declined to disclose the cost of the new facility.
