PROVIDENCE – Mayor Jorge O. Elorza expects to name a new economic-development director “very soon,” according to a spokesman.
The position, which manages the city’s economic development efforts, has been vacant since former director James S. Bennett stepped down earlier this year to return to the private sector. He held the position since 2011.
The mayor’s office wouldn’t disclose the final candidate’s name, but Elorza spokesman Evan England confirmed Thursday the search is “down to a final candidate.”
Elorza told Providence Business News on April 8 that a number of leaders from the business community were a part of the search process and that they had then narrowed it down to three finalists.
