Embolden acquired by New Jersey company

PAWTUCKET – Embolden, a digital-communications group, has been acquired by New Jersey-based Crown Philanthropic Solutions, which specializes in philanthropic technology.
Terms of the acquisition will remain private, Ann-Marie Harrington, president and founder of Embolden, said on Thursday in a phone interview.
She will retain her role at Embolden, but will report to Ephy Torenberg, CEO of Crown.
Embolden, which has 20 employees, also will remain in Pawtucket, and there will be no staffing changes, Harrington said.
Harrington said Embolden has been in business for nearly 17 years. It also has staff in Seattle and Denver.
She said Embolden provides online communications strategy and Web-design services to three different sectors: philanthropic and community foundations, as well as nonprofit and professional-service organizations.
“It’s an exciting time for Embolden,” Harrington said in a statement. “The acquisition allows us to continue to do the strategy and Web design and development work we’re known for while also enabling us to further other important work – namely the studying and measurement of philanthropic institutions’ website performance over time. Together, Crown and Embolden can deliver insights into donors’ behavior that aren’t available elsewhere. That’s powerful.”
Crown, established in 2005, has 20 employees, Harrington said. It works with philanthropic and financial institutions to manage their charitable accounts and provides outsourced accounting services. Crown created the online donor-services management system, DonorFirst.
“We believe both companies together will be more effective in providing the best strategy, software and online solutions to philanthropic institutions – creating the optimal online experience for donors and better prospective and marketing capabilities,” Torenberg said in a statement.
“The variety of online solutions and vendors is confusing to our clients. Our vision is to make managing and administrating charities’ digital assets more affordable, integrated and effective,” Torenberg added.
Embolden will continue to provide online communications strategy and Web design and development services to its nonprofit and professional-services clients.
“Though we will now be a division of Crown, there will be no change in the services and consulting we provide to our clients,” Harrington said. “By teaming up with Crown, we’re now able to provide our community- foundation clients with a full-cycle donor experience. Crown’s work complements our own and enables us to more fully serve a large segment of our client base, in terms of their technology and online strategy needs.”
Embolden has been honored in the past as one of the best places to work by Providence Business News and as the R.I. Small-Business Person of the Year by the U.S. Small Business Administration.
