Envision brings ‘Village Green Virtual Annex’

PROVIDENCE – Envision Technology Advisors and the Village Green Virtual Charter School attended the Nercomp annual conference this week at the R.I. Convention Center, bringing the “Village Green Virtual Annex” with them to demonstrate virtual learning.
The education and information technology conference began Monday and continues today.
“We are excited to be able to not only talk about this solution at Nercomp, but to show it live on the show floor,” Jeremy Girard, Envision’s director of marketing, said in a statement.
Girard said their booth will include two students from the charter school who will demonstrate how they use the technology to complete their schoolwork. An English teacher from the school, its head of curriculum and the school founder also will be in attendance.
Girard said the demonstration will show those who attend the conference how “physical borders do not matter.” He said while most schools had to close during the recent winter storms, students at Village Green did not have to miss any school because the curriculum is online.
Todd Knapp, Envision’s CEO, said in prepared remarks, was excited about showing the potential of technology at the conference.
“This will allow us to show the versatility of this technology in a way we couldn’t achieve with just slides or demos. Attendees will see the actual technology in use and get to speak to the people who architected the solution and those who are using it on a daily basis,” Knapp said.
Envision, which is based in Pawtucket and provides a range of technology consulting services, began working with Village Green in June 2013, approximately two months before it was set to open, as its technology partner. At Village Green, students work with teachers 40 percent of the time, with the remaining 60 percent either online or in reading and advisory groups.
The school is the first of its kind in Rhode Island, as it is a high school which uses a “blended learning” model of on-line curriculum and in-classroom teaching.
