PROVIDENCE – Curious what “how to” questions Rhode Islanders Google more than any other state?
They may or may not surprise you: How to build an igloo, how to roll a joint, how to make money selling drugs and how to do screenshots on Macs and PCs.
Courtesy of Estately, a real estate website, Americans now know what residents in the United States are Googling – and they run the gamut from the practical (Alabama – how to install laminate flooring and North Dakota – how to get a passport) to bizarre and well, unbelievable (Nevada – how to survive a zombie apocalypse and California – how to be invisible, how to teleport).
“When Americans don’t know how to do something, they won’t rest until they’ve figured it out, usually through the power of Google searches,” wrote Estately, which said what it uncovered was both surprising and “extremely predictable.”
It used Google Autocomplete to compile hundreds of common how-to questions Americans type into the Google search bar, then ran the searches through Google Trends to determine which state queried each of the selected phrases the most over the past five years.
Estately said the phrases do not represent what each state Googles the most, rather what each state Googles more frequently than the other 49 states and the District of Columbia.
