More than a dozen formerly homeless, single mothers living at McAuley Village in Providence recently received complimentary beauty services from students at Lincoln Technical Institute’s Euphoria Institute of Beauty Arts and Sciences program during an “Evening of Beauty.”
The event celebrated the beauty of mothers who have experienced some of life’s biggest challenges. For two hours, students, instructors and volunteers pampered moms with manicures, hair tips and jewelry-making.
“It was as if fairy godmothers descended on the village. The moms here have to spend their limited income on diapers, food, clothing, sneakers, mittens and other necessities,” said the Rev. Michele Matott, who oversees the McAuley Village program. “A manicure is a luxury they can only dream of – and Euphoria made that dream possible. The moms giggled like little girls as they received services. Euphoria was more than the name of the school – it was the feeling that pervaded the village!”
“Evening of Beauty” was sponsored by the McAuley Village Women’s Leadership Circle – a group of Rhode Island women leaders who help support the village financially and through volunteerism. •
