FM Global lauded by Audubon Society

SMITHFIELD – The Audubon Society of Rhode Island earlier this month honored FM Global as its Business of the Year, awarded because of its “leadership in applying environmentally sound and innovative practices to its day-to-day business operations.”
The environmental group recognized FM Global for having 77 acres of its 93-acre headquarters in Johnston designated as a wildlife habitat and its building that’s LEED gold certified, according to a press release.
The international insurance company is currently working with Audubon International to obtain “cooperative actuary status” for the property, and its former campus is managed as a wildflower meadow designed to discourage Canada geese from flocking to the Pocasset River.
“As an organization, we are commited to protecting and preserving the environment,” said Roberta Butler, FM Global senior vice president of marketing, in a statement. “Since 1835, FM Global has been helping clients protect their property and we extend our loss prevention philosophy to all aspects of our own business.”
The FM Global campus is 1,600 acres, and 1,500 acres are under a forest management plan for wildlife habitats and conservation, according to the release.
“We are pleased to award FM Global the Business of the Year Award,” said Audubon executive director Lawrence Taft in a statement. “Their ongoing commitment to environmental stewardship makes them an excellent role model for sustainable business practices that we encourage others to follow.”
