Mechanics Cooperative Bank and RDA Insurance recently teamed up to purchase another portable defibrillator for the Fall River Fire Department.
Earlier this year, the companies had purchased one after winning the 2013 Blood Bank Challenge, in which they competed against BayCoast Bank and Partners Insurance Inc. to see who could donate the most pints of blood during a two-day drive. Mechanics Cooperative and RDA used their $2,500 winnings to supply the first defibrillator.
The second defibrillator was purchased in support of the Fall River Fire Department’s goal to equip all of its fire engines with the devices for use during rescue and emergency situations.
Joseph T. Baptista Jr., president and CEO of Mechanics Cooperative Bank, explained “how important the support of the Fall River Fire Department and their life-saving skills are to our community. We are proud to support this great cause and at the same time raise awareness for the Fire Department and their tireless efforts to be more effective emergency managers.” •
