FarSounder moves headquarters to Lavan St. facility

Posted:

WARWICK – FarSounder Inc., a high-tech marine electronics manufacturer, has moved its new global headquarters to a new facility on Lavan Street in Warwick, the company announced Wednesday.

The move “enables consolidation and expansion” of corporate and sales offices, research and development, and manufacturing into one facility, according to a company release.

The company’s facility in Warwick will also allow the on-site incorporation of its acoustic tank testing facility. Previously, FarSounder was located in a rental space on Jefferson Boulevard. The new facility, located at 151 Lavan St. is roughly 6,300 square feet in addition to a large outdoor space.

“This is a much larger building,” CEO Cheryl M. Zimmerman told Providence Business News, adding that it offers “much more flexibility and room for expansion.”

“We are excited to move into a facility that supports our plans for the future” Zimmerman said in prepared remarks. “This move provides a permanent home, as well as an effective manufacturing environment, for our expanding product line.”

It its release, FarSounder lauded the Warwick area for its proximity and access to international airports as well as to the Narragansett Bay and Newport Harbor. “It is a convenient location for international customers and ship operators to visit for in-water demonstrations, training and meetings,” said the company in a release.

When asked if the move would translate into new jobs, Zimmerman said: “Hopefully, not today. We moved in with the same staff, but we are looking for expansion when the time is right.” The company averages 12 employees but sometimes has up to 14, according to Zimmerman.

FarSounder also has a facility off Airport Road in Warwick.
