The Rhode Island Farm Bureau, the state’s nongovernmental, voluntary organization of farm and ranch families, recently wrapped up Food Check-Out Week by donating local food to the Ronald McDonald House in Providence.
Contributions were made by Rhode Island farms, including Young Family Farm, Stamp Farm, Pezza Farm, Salisbury Farm, Jaswell Farm, Blackbird Farm and Schartner Farm, and by the Rhode Island Farm Bureau.
At the conclusion of the drive, bureau president Bill Stamp and executive director Al Bettencourt delivered the donations to house manager Michael Fantom at the Ronald McDonald House.
Food Check-Out Week is celebrated by farm bureaus nationally, and calls attention to safe and affordable food available in the United States. It was held this year from Feb. 17-23.
Since the mid-1990s, farm bureaus across the country have given more than $3 million worth of food and monetary contributions to Ronald McDonald House Charities and other charities during Food Check-Out Week.
