Fatima hospital receives Pathway to Excellence designation

NORTH PROVIDENCE – Our Lady of Fatima Hospital has joined two other Rhode Island hospitals in receiving the Pathway to Excellence designation by the American Nurses Association.

South County Hospital received the designation in 2012, and Providence Veterans Affairs Medical Center in 2014.

Fatima’s designation came after the American Nurses Credentialing Center, a subsidiary of the American Nurses Association, validated that nursing work environments at the hospital merit the recognition.

“The Pathways designation is earned by organizations that demonstrate a commitment to creating a work environment where nurses flourish because they experience, among other things, job satisfaction, professional growth and development, respect and appreciation,” Patricia A. Nadle, vice president, system initiatives and chief nursing officer at Fatima Hospital, said in a statement.

For an organization to earn the distinction, it must undergo a detailed review process. Nurses also participate in a confidential online survey.

One hundred and nineteen organizations have achieved this designation nationally, including seven in New England. According to information from American Nurses Credentialing Center, the designation is something organizations seek, and there is a cost. A Pathway Application is $1,500 to start, and there are other fees that apply to each organization on an individual basis.

Our Lady of Fatima Hospital is an affiliate of CharterCare Health Partners.
