CRANSTON – The state budget for fiscal year 2014 includes an article that will save Rhode Island business roughly $400,000 in filing fees starting in January 2014, the R.I. Department of Labor and Training said Tuesday.

The budget, which was submitted by Gov. Lincoln D. Chafee and approved by the General Assembly, eliminates a $42 filing fee for businesses registering work site hazardous substances with the DLT.

“This change is the latest in a series of cost-saving initiatives my administration has made to improve regulations and to build a more customer-friendly business climate in Rhode Island,” Chafee said in a statement.

The eliminated fee will benefit more than 10,000 companies throughout the state, annually. The Chafee administration has previously reduced costs of small businesses by changing the fee schedule for low-pressure boiler inspections and revising regulation standards related to low-pressure boilers.
