Fellowship Health Resources opens Hope Street loft

PROVIDENCE – A studio apartment on Providence’s Hope Street is now home to a creative space designed for those served by Fellowship Health Resources Studio 35 program.
Studio 35 was created for those recovering from mental illness and addictive disorders to explore art as an extension to traditional therapy.
Known as “the loft,” the Hope Street space features five separate areas, each of which has been designed for a specific form of the arts. There are areas for writing, music, cooking and the visual arts, plus a living room for fiber arts, knitting and reading, or just relaxing.
The program will also offer a variety of art-related classes and is currently in the process of putting together a regular schedule based on the interests of those served by Fellowship. Some ideas that were recently met with interest include classes for sewing, watercolor painting and guitar lessons. In the spring, Studio 35 also plans to offer horticulture programs.
Classes will likely be offered a couple times each week and may range in size from five to 25 students.
“There really are no limits to this space and the Studio 35 program,” said Joe Dziobek, president and CEO of Fellowship Health Resources. “This is just the beginning. Because we now have a dedicated space for Studio 35, right in the heart of Providence’s art community, it has become more real for people here in Rhode Island. There is now a specific place for people to come to where they can enjoy art, be creative, have fun, and most importantly, work on their recovery.”
Fellowship hopes that the loft’s location will make it easy to develop relationships with local colleges and the community’s artists who can volunteer to teach classes or share their talents. In the future, it’s also a possibility that classes may be open to the public.
“We are eager to join forces with all of those interested in sharing their expertise and creative expression with others,” said Caroline Gates, Studio 35’s artistic leader.
