PROVIDENCE – Arts organization Trinity Repertory Company invites the public to view, for a second time, “The Every 28 Hours Plays,” a collection of one-minute plays inspired by and written during the events in Ferguson, Mo., and experience new, similar material made closer to home.

The 90-play collection, which was written by authors from across the country in response to the contested statistic claiming one black person is killed every 28 hours by a vigilante, security guard or police, was originally presented by Trinity Rep last fall.

Following the Monday, Oct. 17 performance, Trinity Rep will put on new material, “The One-Minute Play Festival: Our Response,” co-presented by Trinity Rep, 1MPF, Community College of Rhode Island, University of Rhode Island, Wheaton College, the Southside Cultural Center and the city of Providence.

This performance is inspired by community dialogue as well as playmaking workshops that explore race, civic engagement and the current political climate led by Dominic D’Andrea, 1MPF’s producing artistic director, and produced by Joe Wilson Jr., Trinity Rep’s resident acting company member.

Wilson said Trinity Rep is more than a playhouse.

“We are fighting every day for people to have safe spaces to talk about the things that matter in their communities—race, diversity, class, division. At Trinity Rep, we are a social services institution, an educational institution, a political institution, and yes, a cultural institution,” he said.

“The Every 28 Hours Plays” will be shown Monday, Oct. 17 at 7:30 p.m. and “The One-Minute Play Festival: Our Response” will take place Tuesday, Oct. 18 at 7:30 and 9:30 p.m. All performances will take place at Trinity Rep, 201 Washington Street, Providence and are free and open to the public. Tickets may be reserved at www.trinityrep.com, by calling the box office at (401) 351-4242 or at the theater’s box office.

1MPF is America’s largest and longest running grass roots community-engaged theatre festival, founded by Producing Artistic Director Dominic D’Andrea.
