PROVIDENCE – Which startup this year has the best business pitch in Rhode Island?

Six Rhode Island entrepreneurs hope to answer that question next month during the “Get Started RI” business pitch competition hosted by Cox Business and Inc. Magazine. The six finalists, announced on Thursday, will compete for more than $40,000 in cash and prizes during the fourth annual event on Sept. 22. The finalists include:

  • Spotter, an app-based company that taps into the supply of private parking to help drivers park better, cities scale smarter and allow parking spot owners to generate passive income
  • Droners.io is a company that connects you with local, professional drone pilots to film your wedding, real estate, surf session or anything else you might imagine
  • WhatsGood is an online marketplace that connects wholesale food purchasers with local purveyors through a comprehensive directory of farmers, fishermen, artisans and producers
  • Portela Soni Medical LLC has created a patent-pending new standard of care that will reduce hospital-acquired infections due to urinary catheters
  • Nhuad Single Hand Video Game Controllers is a patented universal left- and right-handed construction that is designed to allow anyone to play video games in a new way
  • Bootblack Brand is a maker of creatively-complex cocktail and soda syrups, using a variety of fresh ingredients for both the home and professional cocktail enthusiast

The six finalists will compete at the Providence Biltmore Hotel, and pitch their respective business ideas to a group of panelists, including Melissa Withers, managing director of Betaspring; Mark S. Murphy, editor of Providence Business News; Tom Burgess, CEO of Linkable Networks in Boston; and James Ledbetter, editor at Inc. Magazine.

Ken Kraft, vice president of marketing for Cox Business, a division of Cox Communications, will be the moderator.

The winner will walk away with $10,000 in cash, mentoring from Betaspring, free Cox Business services, an article on Inc. Magazine’s website, advertising in PBN, advertising in Rhode Island Monthly, advertising with Cumulus Radio and more, according to a press release.

Warwick-based CBC LLC, a designer of wind turbines for energy, took home the $10,000 first price in last year’s competition.
