It’s a local credit union with the distinction of being Rhode Island’s first. In 1915, Navigant Credit Union opened its doors in the basement of Notre Dame Parish in Central Falls. Since then, it has upheld its core values of staying committed to the financial well-being of the families, businesses and communities it serves.
With more than 200 statewide employees, Navigant provides its members with a complete line of consumer financial services, including checking accounts and real estate mortgages. It even offers mobile banking. Employees are provided with “extras” that make a stronger company and a stronger community.
“Providing employees with opportunity – whether it be for advancement within the company or the ability to leave work 15 minutes early to see your daughter’s softball game – fosters appreciation and loyalty,” said CEO and President Gary Furtado.
The credit union’s volunteer program, V-Force, encourages community participation by granting employees one paid day of service per year to participate in an approved, local activity. Past efforts have benefited Salvation Army, Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life.
Employees can also work in a health-conscious environment with exceptional benefits, such as a complete gym, and nutrition and fitness classes through The Health and Wellness Institute. A personal trainer is also accessible for a low cost at the Navigant gym during lunch and after-hours.
“The most significant opportunity we provide our employees is the understanding that while our work is important, it is not the most important part of our employees’ lives,” said Furtado. •
