Need to wind down a little bit? Most of us do.

The people at Hinckley, Allen & Snyder LLP are so sure of this that they built it into their corporate culture with monthly wind-down parties. The folks enjoy beer, wine and a light dinner that starts before quitting time – letting staff knock off a little early.

The law firm has been providing world-class service and pragmatic business advice for more than a century. It has also created a comfortable and supportive workplace while climbing to the upper echelons of the legal world.

“From generous health benefits and wellness programs to liberal time-off policies, we send a message that we care about our employees and their well-being,” said Lynn Clarke, office administrator.

“We give employees the tools they need to succeed in their jobs, such as state-of-the-art computer technology, on-site and off-site opportunities for training and professional development, and a safe, healthy, professional work environment,” she said.

Not so professional that employees can’t let their hair down from time to time. This is evident in their “dress for your day” policy; in which staff can wear business casual attire if formal wear is unnecessary. The firm’s time-off policy gives employees some flexibility in creating balance between their work and home life.

And they reward employees for sticking around.

The firm has a generous anniversary program to celebrate tenure. “They receive flowers, an AmEx gift certificate and a gift from Tiffany,” said Clarke. “We have two employees who have been with HAS for over 40 years.” •
