Five Questions With: Michael DeCataldo

"Our primary growth strategy is to maintain our independence, further develop our service and specialty groups, expand our reach into new markets and continue to embrace technology."

Michael DeCataldo is managing partner of Sansiveri, Kimball & Co., an accounting firm based in Providence, which is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year.
DeCataldo and his team of nearly fifty employees are celebrating the big 4-0 in an unusual way, giving the rest of the state the opportunity to join. He talked with Providence Business News about the firm, its anniversary plans, and its business strategy moving forward.

PBN: Congratulations on your 40th anniversary, can you tell our readers a little bit about your company and describe how you’ve grown over the last four decades?
DECATALDO
: Our firm was founded in 1975 by Jerry Sansiveri with one administrative assistant. Over the last 40 years we have grown into one of Rhode Island premier full service accounting and consulting firms with close to fifty employees. The firm started with a hand full of clients and is currently one of the state’s largest independent firms. By focusing on our client needs and objectives, we have developed a diverse clientele that is quick to refer us additional business from their friends, family and business associates. Our growth is a direct result of quality service, timely assistance and responsive interaction with our clients.
PBN: You’re celebrating this benchmark anniversary in a unique way, can you tell our readers a little bit about what you’re doing over the next three months?
DECATALDO
: Our mission is simple: Celebrate our 40th Anniversary by Celebrating Rhode Island. We have three featured packages (Block Island, Newport, and Providence) representing some of the great destinations in Rhode Island. Winners will be selected at the end of each month through our social media platforms. Anyone can enter by liking, retweeting, or commenting on any of the posts on our Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn and Google + pages (up to one entry per day). Contest rules can be found on our website (www.sansiveri.com) under the resources tab.
PBN: Why did you decide to celebrate in this fashion?
DECATALDO
: The contest is hosted on social media because we feel it is the best way to reach a diverse group of people. It is all about connecting to those that have supported the growth of our firm over the past 40 years and expanding our online community.
PBN: How did you partner up with the different businesses, are they all clients?
DECATALDO
: The packages were selected by a committee who narrowed down a (long!) list of their favorite Rhode Island experiences. We wanted to include some flexibility for contest winners, so the packages include gift cards and certificates which can be used at a number of our clients’ businesses.
PBN: Looking forward, how do you plan to grow/sustain Sansiveri, Kimball & Co. until you can celebrate your 50th anniversary?
DECATALDO
: Our primary growth strategy is to maintain our independence, further develop our service and specialty groups, expand our reach into new markets and continue to embrace technology. It has always been the firm’s philosophy that if our clients achieve their goals, aspirations and objectives that our own growth and reputation will follow.
