Flair for ?personal ?touch

In a digital age, the handwritten thank you note has its place. But most people don’t have the time, or the handwriting grace, to handle 200 messages.

That’s where Beth Schart comes in. Her Coventry company, Personal Scribe Services, prepares handwritten thank you notes for businesses and individuals. Schart will write a personal message on stationery of the client’s choosing, along with handwritten envelopes, then ship the completed product so the customer can mail it from their own post office.

Launched a year ago, the business is directed at company owners sending notes to clients, and at individuals who are planning weddings or significant events. Schart got the idea when she was teaching elementary school, her first career. One of the new teachers was getting married, and worried aloud about how to write more than 100 thank you notes.

Schart realized that with her elegant handwriting, and practice in the art of the graceful thank you, she could fill a niche.

Since then, her business has grown by word-of-mouth and social media. People can still choose to send their own notes to close friends and relatives, but others can be farmed out discreetly, Schart said: “If you’ve got 100 guests and 100 notes need to get out, I might write 80 to 90 percent of them.” •
