PROVIDENCE – The Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation is scheduled to turn downtown Providence pink as part of the seventh annual “Flames of Hope” celebration. The event is the largest breast cancer awareness gathering in the Northeast, according to organizers.

A full WaterFire lighting is scheduled for Oct. 6, with Miss USA 2012 Olivia Culpo due to join breast cancer survivors and their loved ones at the lighting ceremony.

On Oct. 7, the Gloria Gemma 5K, a major fundraising effort, will kick off at around 11 a.m. It will be preceded by a Kids 1K, sponsored by Macy’s, to begin an hour earlier.

Culpo is scheduled to compete in the 5K along with teammates from Bay View Academy. •
