Partners Peter Crump and Matt Dempsey have watched their company, Site Specific LLC, grow by leaps and bounds since they first launched the venture in 2005.

“We’re a young company, so we’re in growth mode,” said Crump, co-president of the Providence-based design-build firm and general contractor. “We’ll do somewhere in the neighborhood of $8 million to $10 million in sales this year. Three or four years ago, we did maybe a tenth of that.”

The company, which now employs two dozen people, focuses on preserving and restoring New England’s historic architecture. Crump, a design and construction specialist, is a graduate of New York’s New School for Social Research and the design school within Paris College of Art. Dempsey is a third-generation builder with an engineering degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, N.Y.

Being a new business is just one reason for the company’s growth spurt. In addition, Crump and Dempsey stay ahead of the pack by taking on commercial, institutional and residential work. “We’re flexible,” Crump said. “We can shift with the market. In this business, that’s an exception to the rule.”

A look through the company’s portfolio proves the point. Recent renovation projects include the George W. Carr House at the Rhode Island School of Design and the Metcalf Research Laboratory at Brown University, both on College Hill, the Farmstead & La Laterie in downtown Providence, and homes in Barrington.

The partners also strive to incorporate passive solar, wind and geo-thermal design features into their projects to meet the construction industry’s latest standards for environmental sustainability. •CEO (or equivalent):
